Sizing and Jewelry Care

How do I find my ring size?

Visiting a local jeweler to have your finger sized is the only way to guarantee a perfect fit. Please note that each finger will have a different size.

If you cannot make it to your local jeweler you can try our Ring Sizing Tool for the cost of shipping.

Kindly keep in mind that we cannot accept exchanges due to incorrect sizing on made-to-order products.

How do I care for my jewelry?

Please take care of your jewelry by keeping it clean and away from water, soaps and lotions. Store your pieces in a dry location - preferably in the box we send with your piece. If the piece gets something on it, wipe clean immediately.

Do not use jewelry cleaner on plated items. You can polish these pieces with a damp cloth.

What is Sterling Silver?

Sterling silver is the most robust alloy of silver (92.5% silver and 7.5% copper), balancing beauty and durability. We encourage you to wear your silver jewelry every day for the best condition. If you're not wearing the jewelry, store it in a safe and dry place. Exposure to air, dust or other elements, particularly those containing salt and sulfur, may cause sterling silver to tarnish more rapidly. With the right care, your silver jewelry will last a lifetime.

Store your jewelry in an airtight container. Wrapping it in aluminium foil or a plastic bag will also help prevent tarnishing. Protect your silver from saltwater, shower gels, shampoos and cleaning agents.

Silver cleaning cloths and silver dipping baths from the drugstore help against discolouration.

What is Gold Plated or Vermeil Jewelry?

"ver·may" – To be considered Gold Vermeil, the jewelry must have a thick layer of real gold over 925 sterling silver. At Molokai, we use 18k gold on certified recycled silver to make our jewelry even more durable.

We gold-plate our Molokai jewelry pieces in Switzerland to guarantee the best quality.

Vermeil jewelry should never be cleaned with aggressive chemicals, as these could damage the gold coating. Usually, a bit of lukewarm water with soap and gentle polishing with a soft cloth is enough.

What is Solid Gold?

Gold has been used for thousands of years to make jewelry. Along with silver and platinum metals, gold is one of the most precious metals. It's extracted from gold mines or rivers in various countries worldwide.

The sparkling material is highly valued for its rarity, durability and unique colour, among other things. Solid gold, or fine gold, is usually alloyed (mixed) with silver and copper for jewelry making. That optimizes the hardness, strength and polishability since fine gold is incredibly soft and therefore not very stable and suitable for everyday use. The so-called "alloy" is then marked, for example, as 14-carat or 585 gold.

We usually use recycled 14-carat gold to create our solid gold pieces. 14-carat gold offers greater wear resistance due to its higher metal content. People with very active lifestyles should consider purchasing 14-carat gold jewelry as they are better maintained during sports, manual labour and other rigorous and regular activities.

Can you repair or re-plate my jewelry?

Yes, we want you to wear your Molokai jewelry for as long as possible.

After continued wear, your item might get tarnished, and the plating might be scratched or worn off. We offer a polishing and re-plating service to bring your piece back to its original lustre.

Once you submit your repair order, ship your item to our shop. Do not ship your jewelry in a regular envelope. It can be lost or damaged. Instead, we recommend a padded envelope or box with tracking.

Ship your jewelry to Molokai Jewelry, Grüngasse 7, 8004 Zurich.

Please allow 2-4 weeks for your repair to be completed. Repair fees may apply.

Do you repair or re-plate other jewelry pieces?

We only accept repairs or re-platings for the pieces that we have created.

Do you offer wholesale?

Not at the moment, but we plan do offer wholesale in the nearest future.
