Picture this: an evening for two, a table full of files and carving tools, a piece of blue wax. And a few weeks later you are wearing rings that exist only once, because you made them yourselves.

Why the workshop is worth it
- A true one-of-a-kind: every ring is carved by hand, so each ring exists only once.
- All inclusive: CHF 300 per person including materials and casting in 925 sterling silver.
- No talent required: you are guided step by step, from the first sketch to the finished wax model.
- Small group: usually a maximum of 4 people per date.
- In the heart of Zurich: at the MOLOKAI Shop at Grüngasse 7 in District 4.
- A memory you can wear: instead of photos on your phone, you wear your evening together on your finger.
Why making your own rings is a great date idea
In the workshop you don't watch, you make. You sit side by side, work with files, carving tools and heat, and see a piece of wax turn into a ring step by step. Whether you follow the same idea or design two very different rings, minimal, organic or bold, is up to you.
Unlike dinner or a movie, something stays after this evening: a few weeks later you hold your silver rings in your hands, each one showing the traces of your own work.

How the workshop works
- Idea and design: You decide what shape your ring should have. We guide you step by step, from the design to the finished wax model.
- Carving: You shape your ring blank from special jewelry wax, working with files, carving tools and heat.
- Casting: After the workshop your wax models are professionally cast in 925 sterling silver. On request, the rings can be gold-plated or made in solid gold.
- Collection: After about 4 to 6 weeks your rings are ready. You collect them at the MOLOKAI Shop or have them sent to you by post.
How does wax become a silver ring?
Wax carving is a classic jewelry-making technique. The carved wax model is the template for casting: it is embedded in a mould, the wax is melted out, and the liquid metal flows into the cavity. This is called lost-wax casting. That is why the finished ring takes on the shape of your model, with every edge and texture you created.

Make your own partner rings and wedding rings
The workshop is also suitable for couples who want to design their own partner rings or wedding rings. At MOLOKAI the rings are not forged but carved from wax and then cast. This also makes organic shapes and textures possible, from simple and smooth to flowing and angular.
Each of you can carve your own ring, or you design the rings for each other. The rings are cast in 925 sterling silver. On request, you can have them gold-plated (an additional CHF 100) or made in solid gold. We calculate the price for solid gold individually on request.
